So I enter all the info im suppossed to, and then I press activate and what happenes is, the old dial up connection thing pops up saying what do you want to connect to. the problem is, i dont use a ISP anymore and im always connected to the internet. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Those boxes that pop up usually make a call on your settings in Internet Explorer (even if you actually use another browser).

Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools > Internet Options. Click on the Connections tab. Click on the button next to 'Never dial a connection'. Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'.

i did that but then it just says stardocks Activate.exe could not connect with server.
Keep the Internet Explorer setting which I've given to you. (It's the one that all broadband users should use to prevent their PC from trying to dial a connection).

If your PC is connected to the internet but a specific program isn't, there's only one obvious cause: Your firewall is denying the program access to the internet.

Go to your firewall settings and look for the list of programs which have been denied access to the internet. You'll almost certainly find the relevant program. Then follow the relevant procedure to remove the block. This will vary between firewalls but try right-clicking on the reference to the program and looking for an option to 'allow access'.

thanks chris, that worked, but the stupid thing is playing up and when I connect now it says there was an error activating the product, do you think it wouldn't happen if I uninstalled then re-installed it?
I don't know whether uninstalling/reinstalling the product will work but it's certainly what I'd try.

If it doesn't work, take a look at the support pages on the manufacturer's website. There might be some advice there.

Good luck!

Chris
