What age to start wearing a bra?

My daughter will be 9 in a couple of months and I am wondering at what age should I introduce her to a bra. There are bra's on the market beginning at age 7 - 8 years and this has puzzled me because I am sure me and my friends were introduced to bra's when we had started to develop a little and age 7 seems quite young. I would be grateful for any parents who have any ideas could help.

Many thanks

In my opinion 7 & 8 is wayyyyyy to young for bra wearing! I wouldn't put any daughter of mine in one until she was actually starting to develop breasts.

I really hate how clothes manufacturers try to foist adult clothes onto children, nothing worse than seeing a young girl in cropped tops and the like. And the arents who are gullable enough to buy 'em need slapping.
Sorry, i've a dodgy 'P'...word up there ^^^ is parents not arents!!
yes I agree with Boo here, I think 7-8 is too young to be wearing a bra, however I think it should be determined by how developed the girl is rather than age and keeping up with friends.
My daughter is 11 and a half and has only started wearing one in the last few months. She had no need for one when she was 7! I too have seen padded bra and thong sets that start at age 7-8! If your daughter has developed anything at all she may feel self concious without one especially at gym or when she just has on a thin top. Have a look around with her when you think the time is right and choose some together.

Thanks for all of your advice.

My thinking is she is too young so we will await development or secondary school I think.

Cheers again
Girls don't really need bras until they begin to develop breasts, at whatever age that may be for them.

However, they are sold for girls of your daughter's age, and there is some peer pressure to wear them. What you can get for these girls are bras that don't actually do anything support-wise but just cover things up, a bit like a bikini top. If she doesn't like wearing vests, then these can save her modesty at school when she's getting changed for PE etc.

I wouldn't 'force' or talk her into wearing one, though. Just wait until she starts to ask.
if she has boobs then get her one, no matter what age she is.

there isn't some specific age where girls instantly need a bra.

i had large boobs at 7
my 11 yr old started wearing one about a year ago as she had developed and when we got her measured she went into a 30A, my 9yr old is wearing the crop top sets as although she is developing shes not ready for a bra yet.
children dont need bras at age 7.
I didn't wear one until I was at secondary school, when I was already probably a C cup. This made things like sport very hard at primary school, and in retrospect I wish my mum had introduced me to them at 9ish as this would have been better. I think whenever they are needed is the right time.
hi mifta,
I have a daughter who started to develop 'boobs' at 6, she is only seven now, and has been wearing a bra for nearly a year.
well said all of you!
It isnt ideal for a 6/7 year old to wear a bra, but needs must .
