alpeen certainly looks correct but ,as you say, the clue should be club not clubs

3d Sweden less s and w for ways = Eden but didn't think Eden was a country...

Many thanks, JMR27. Like me you have doubts about the absent plural form in 1a.
I think I could take (SW)EDEN, if S and W are two ways to leave the country, Sweden, but should not the clue have a definition for Eden? I'd even thought of E and N around
DE(utschland) but, again, no definition.
Sorry to intrude but was looking for 1d for this crossword and came upon your post. The clue is 'Two ways to leave the country garden' so your answer is correct as Eden is a garden.
