who the two people were and what all the letters were called in the 'joke' phonetic alphabet . I heard some of this on radio 4 the other day but I can only remember x (eggs) for breakfast, and y (why) for gawds sake. Does anyone know the rest?

I believe you mean the Two Ronnies (Barker and Corbett). They were in a restaurant/cafe ordering food. Such terms as FUNEMNX (have you any ham and Eggs), SIFMNX (yes I have ham and eggs) etc.
