at what age do female chihuahuas go into heat? i have a 2 year old male chi and i want to get a baby girl, and i want to breed them later but i am concerned that my male dog will impregnate the baby girl before she is ready.

The bitch may come in season from 6 months onwards, and will come in every six months or so. You dog will try to mate her at every season, and will do everything in his power to get to her. He wil bark and howl, and scratch at doors. He will climb fences and barracades and she will also try to get to him, when she is at the receptive stage of her season.

Are you sure you want to go down this road? There is a lot more to breeding dogs than just getting a dog and a bitch.
Chihuahuas are notoriously difficult to breed, and often incur a lot of veterinary expense as many bitches have to have c-sections (upwards of �400) and often only have single puppies. Apart from the possibility of losing the bitch. It is certainly not a money getting game.
