Hi everyone. I'm new to the AB and was delighted to find such a friendly and helpful bunch of people, I would very much appreciate some advice from you. My problem is that I'm 22 and have 3 children under 3yrs old (which I care for full time) and have become very lonely and depressed. My husband works a lot of hours and I don't have any young friends in this new area we've moved too so I don't have very much contact with other adults. I've tried looking at mother & baby groups but (at the risk of sounding sobby) they are entirely made up of scummy women from a near-by district. Can anyone suggest how I can make friends with women around my age before I go insane? Thanks x

hi, oh my goodness 3 children under 3!
how an earth do you cope!
try the libary! or i take my little girl to a music class and the mums are great there! try a website called kidsguide.co.uk.
it gives you all sorts of info in your area!
good luck.
if you dont mind me asking, you say you have only just moved into the area,so how do you know that mums at the baby groups are scummy women from a nearby district, for goodness sake give them a chance, and you will probably find them very nice, you will find new friends and your children will have new playmates and it will certainly keep you occupied. go on get out there you will enjoy
Living in the U.S. I can only assume you have Barnes and Nobles book stores there. If so, several time a week, but especially Saturday mornings about 10:00 AM, there's story time. They usually have a college student reading stories to the children and the kids really enjoy it. What I've noticed is the mom's... usually youngish are all visiting and afterwards several have coffee in the adjoining Starbuck's facility. They appear to have just met and, as young mom's do, enjoy getting to know each other.... Hey! Can't hurt and the kids'll have a good time. If no Book Store maybe a library will do the same... Best of luck!
Have to agree with smiffy, Why the prejudice? Unfortunately with an attitude like that you're unlikely to make any friends! Just because some one lives in an area that doesn't come up to your standards doesn't make them scum! Sorry if this sounds harsh, especially after saying what a friendly bunch we are....but we are also truthful. At 22, you yourself are only a baby....don't cut yourself off from others by 'judging the book by it's cover'.

you know what - i can completly understand where you are coming from!

i'm 18 with a nearly 10month old lil boy and i don't have many friends either - i clearly stopped becoming friend-worthy-material when i got pregnant and had a baby - obviously. note my sarcasm ;)

i signed up for some mummy boards and one in particular was fab, even if they was all american but i made a comment about canadians being 'away with the fairys' and a comment on muslims and head veils and they thought i was hitler 2 so i decided to leave haha - omg i sound right awful! the board was idob.org/forum they are really helpful too! i was 'babiebump' on there :) like i said they are american well most of them but they are really nice, helpful girls/women :)

i don't know any other places where they do mummy and tot groups appart from at sure start - maybe you could try going to some type of baby massage or swim classes or something like that? rather than a mummy and tot group where you just 'hang out' do i even make sense? haha i don't think i do lol.
