Hi, has anyone been to Kenya on holiday? I've just been looking at holidays on the internet and it seems like really good value for money.
Does anyone have any do's and don'ts? How much does eating/drinking out etc cost?
It will be our honeymoon so we would like to go somewhere a bit special, does this fit the bill??
Thanks very much!

hi, i'm original from south africa and would love to go to kenya some stage....

...you might find some useful travel tips from the lonely planet travellers:

I spent something like two years in Kenya a good while back and can confirm that the country and the vast majority of its people are delightful. However, there was (and from what I have heard, it has certainly not got better) a very sizeable problem with crime including some of the armed variety. If you go on an organised tour you are far less likely to be troubled in any way than if , say, backpacking but you must still be sensible, keep your wits about you and not carry anything seen to be attractive - jewellery was being snatched off women in the streets of Nairobi and my sunglasses were snatched off my face through an open car window at traffic lights. That said, I think there are few more spectacular places for wildlife (i.e. animals) and it has many very scenic places - the climate is very attractive in most of the country. I hope to return before long.

Thanks very much for the replies!
people usually go there for safaris, and it's great for that. Beaches are pretty good but you might find closer ones (depending where you are now, of course). There does seem to be a bit of a crime/security problem these days; nothing huge, but enough to keep you on your toes in town, which you may not want on a honeymoon. There's allink, though: it's cheap because it's poor, but poor people are more likely to want to rob you. It might be worth paying a bit extra and going somewhere a bit more prosperous - somewhere in the Caribbean, say, if it's beaches you want.
I am lucky to be going on 31 December and cannot wait. The actual package holiday is really good value and a friend has been to where I am going so it comes recommended. The cost of the holiday goes up depending on what you want to do when there - we have arranged 2 safaris and planning balloon ride, boat trip etc. As I say this is turning it into an expensive trip although this is not unexpected as we really have been told it is a trip of a lifetime and only problem is once you have been you want to keep going back. I know it wont be somewhere we can just wander about unaccompanied - all organised trips but friend did not encounter any problems of any sorts. everyone very friendly. Ps it is Mombasa we are off to - cannot comment on Nairobi. Our hotel is half board but friend has also advised us of some really nice restaurants to go to which are not at all expensive.
