cd/dvd drives wont burn

i have 2 drives on my pc for burning - 1 is a dvd burner the other is a cd burner.they have been working fine until a couple of days back.now when i attempt to burn to the main dvd drive it fails after about 5 or 6% every time whereas the 2nd drive wont even recognise blank discs and just hangs with the read light on.i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling nero but with no success.i have also tried different burning software but again with no success.has anyone else experienced this problem before ? any help appreciated(i run xp btw).

Sounds like a hardware conflict to me. Look on the back of the drives to make sure the master and slave jumpers are correct. Also, most DVDR/RW drives burn cds as well. You wont miss out on not using the CDR drive.
