immersion heater change

Is it easy enough to change a storage tanks immersion heater, do I empty the tanks 1st via turning off water supply,I have ordered the immersion thermostat and new cable also removal tool,

First of all is it in the bottom of the tank or the top ? the first thing to do is turn the taps on, then turn the stop tap off, put a hose on the drain off plug, if the immersion is in the top of the tank you will have to drain down the main cold storage tank and a few inches from the cylinder, but loosen the immersion slightly first, if the heater is in the bottom you will have to drain the whole cylinder down, remember to turn power supply off(obviously) when you are putting new one in don't forget the gasket and put some PTFE tape on the thread, put it in by hand first of all then tighten with spanner, also remember to clean around thread when you have removed faulty one, good luck, Ray

PS, when refilling cylinder let water run till it comes out of the lowest taps then as it comes out turn each tap off,this should avoid air lock.
