I was caught driving a lorry, (which I believed to a maximum gross weight of 24 tonnes) through a restricted 24.5 tonne zone. It appears the lorry I was driving is registered at the DVLA to have a MGW of 26 tonnes (doh).

Anyway, the letter I received fromSuffolk County Council is rather vague as to what punishment I may receive. It says in one paragraph "further action may be taken" and later on it gives you all the jargon about "failing to mention, when questioned in court" etc etc etc.

Has anyone had a similar story, as mates at work don't seem to know.

Thanks in advance.

"Further action may be taken"

Is always said or put on this kind of form if the police are involved even if it is a minor accident and it was completely the other persons fault.

I doubt whether any further action will be taken, you could get a letter fron the vpolice saying "No further action will be taken, very petty if they do.
I've known the police take people to a public weighbridge if it concerns the weight of the vehicle and with it being quite tight. It might be an option if the same thing happens in the future.

Thanks to both of you. The annoying thing is that, had I been stopped at the time of the offence (August) I could have pleaded my innocence there and then. As it is, I received a letter out of the blue informing me that I had been "followed, but not stopped by an Authorised Road Traffic Enforcement Officer." If he was an enforcer, why didn't he enforce then? What happens if I have been "followed but not stopped" on the umpteen other occasions that I have used this road?

I have since found an alternative route, which I will use in future!!!!
perhaps they only stopped you because you had your chelsea sticker in the window bluey
If you weren't over the weight limit I can't see as you've commited any offence. Normally if police have doubt they will check it. There should be a plate, usually on inside of cab door telling you what the specs of your wagon are.
Your transport manager should know
