I am diabetic myself and have been told by a specialist nurse than because of this i am unable to give blood. I assume this is due to the higher levels of sugar in my blood However would it be possible to give platelet donations instead of full blood donations? Thanks

Hi Styles, as a blood doner myself the reason you cannot give is probably because of the need for you to keep your insulin level constant. Donating blood would perhaps send your levels skee -wiff. The National Blood Transfusion Service, (in the yellow pages) will be able to give a more accurate explanation . Cheers, its nice to hear from another altrouistic donor
