all spaces should be the same size as disabled and parent and child then you would not get the two spacers as they would not fear yet another dent in the side of their car. and you wouldnt "need" a third of a car park dedicated to disabled left empty. Everyone would be better for it.
parent and child parking spaces are a fairly new idea so is the amount of child obesity,,can you see the pattern forming,if parents actually made their children walk these days they may be fitter kids,,people nowadays will not walk the length of themselves.just find an empty space anywhere in the car park and be grateful
I use these spaces cos I have 2 kids under 5 and trying to get them in and out without denting someone else's car in a normal space is a nightmare.

I completely agree that they should be further away though - the whole point is to give you more room not to be closer to the shop.
I don't have small children, but I park as far away as possible from the store because there is more room and I don't wish to have my doors bashed by someone trying to get in and out of their cars. Not their fault. The spaces are just not wide enough.
Am not entirely sure what the point of them is as they dont have them in NCP's and council car parks. They are a recent addition by supermarkets to try and grab more shoppers by promising parents preferential treatment.
People who park in disabled bays but are perfectly healthy should have their cars clamped.
