I know this is a bit early but when I was a child we sang completly different words to Silent Night - it was Hallowed night not holy night - does this ring any bells with anyone

the carol was originally written in German with the first line being "Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht". The German word heilige can be translated as holy or hallowed. Other parts of the song could equally have been translated differently as a literal translation would be unlikely to scan properly.
