networking up a sony vaio

i have a sony vaio pcg141c note book and want to network it up to a hp pavilion f1723.what kind of lead do i need? is it a crossover lead and which?there are lots to choose from and i need to get the right one...any help would be great

There are only 2 types of cat 5 ethernet cable you will need for home use. Crossover and straight through. You need a crossover cable. The only thing that differs between crossover cables is the colour and the length.

thanks for that.in my vaio i have a 10/100 LAN cardbus pc card...so a crossover cable fits in there and the other fits into my pc?but do i need any other connector for my pc?network addaptor mabe?
The crossover cable will work in your desktop as well. The product specification on the HP site includes a 10/100 adapter on the motherboard. You won't need any other equipment.
