Can anyone tell me who sang the old fifties song "Smile". Lyrics went something like this: Smile, though your heart is breaking, Smile?

the original is by charlie chaplin
This song was recently used in TV ads for McCain oven chips - a version sung by Frances Ruffelle, who's best-known for having starred in musicals like Les Miserables and starlight Express, and for representing the UK in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest. Her website is, predictably, www.francesruffelle.com
Charlie Chaplin never sang the song; he wrote the melody as the theme to his 1936 film 'Modern Times'.

In 1954 lyrics were added, the song was given the title 'Smile' and Nat King Cole hit the charts.

Westlife sing this on the album Allow us to be Frank also Micheal Jackson sings it on his album History

If the lyrics to the song are "Smile, though your heart is breaking. Smile, even thoug it's aching." , then the artist you are probably looking for is Bobby Caldwell. He did it most recently is the version we hear a lot now.
