Booking a flight to Australia

Does anyone know the cheapest time of year to book a flight to Sydney. I plan to fly in March 07 and have been keeping an eye on prices, after the recent bomb scare prices dipped to 635 but are now up to a whopping 770! I know I'm looking around that region of expense but I also know that at certain times of the year flight prices are reduced and every penny saved on the flight is more spending money when I'm there!
Thanks in advance.

Hi Toothfairy. My brother & sister-in-law live in Sydney. They recommend travelling in March so you're spot on. Xmas is horribly expensive and any time over their summer is too busy cos the kids are on holiday. Stick with your original plans.
I think the prices have probably shot up cos people who have been putting off flying are now all clambering to get on a plane. Once the demand reduces to normal levels the prices should even out. My sister in law usually pays about 600 - 650, but she flies at ridiculous times in the night.
Happy searching
BA reduce their prices to 620 for London - Sydney return from 16th April.
I have tickets for the Cricket in Sydney in January but can't afford the flight - nearly 1300!! Gutted.
Which airlines have you checked?

Virgin Atlantic are currently offering 657.60 London-Sydney return in March:

The Qantas 'Red Hot Sale' is offering London-Sydney return 'from 620' between 16/04/07 to 15/06/07. (Book by 15th November). Travel is on either Qantas or BA flights, so it's probably the same offer which Matt_London refers to:

During March, Qantas are offering 684 return on midweek flights:

My advice would be to decide on your approximate dates and book as soon as you can. In September I booked Glasgow to Auckland for next July at 723 on the BA website. I can no longer find that price.

As well as the internet it's well worth visiting/phoning some travel agents as this year I found the cheapest flights to NZ with the Flightcentre were about 100 cheaper than any I colud find on the web.
