I have previously posted this question in the Anagram section, but it seems to have disappeared! - so here we go again - any hints please.

The Old..........used to sell..........before they went out of fashion.

Which two words, which are anagrams of one another, should complete the blanks in the above sentence so that it reads totally logically?

Please note - the word "old" is capitalized - I do not know if that is significant or not.

The Old COSTERS used to sell CORSETS etc ...
Question Author
Thanks Crofter, but did costers sell corsets? I thought they sold fruit and veg??
freddie - Now you're being greedy!
Seriously though, costers sold fruit and other wares from a barrow.
Still, for you, I'll see what else I can come up with!

Thanks again Crofter! You are most probably right - and yours is the best suggestion I have had from anyone so far - just that the question states "reads TOTALLY logically" - I am perhaps looking too deeply into this. I had come up with Parson and Aprons, but a Parson would not logically sell Aprons, so cast that aside. Oh it is driving me mad!!
I'll keep thinking ! The other problem with Parson is that the "Old" is redundant. At least with Costers, they have become rather dated - hence "Old".

I get the feeling that BOTH missing words are plural!
Question Author
Yes - one of them must be plural to fit in with "before THEY went out of fashion" - so both words must contain an S ??
True freddie, but I'm also thinking that the first word ends with S - so may contain two S's (as in COSTERS). If it does contain one S then I fancy it on the end of the word!
