Can you get 'Chips and Gravy' down south in a chip shop, or is it only chip shops in the north that serve up this fab dish?
What's the furthest south you've been able to order them?

Ooohh I'm hungry now, reading this. Must nip round to the local chippy for some chips and gravy (Stoke on Trent btw - can get it in all chippys round here!)
Definitely available in Norfolk - Dereham for instance.
Although the best chippy in Norfolk is Duggies in Harleston.

You can even get chips with gravy from KFC now.
I once went into a chippy down south once and was pleasantly surprised to see chips n gravy on the menu.
Obviously i ordered it but was disappointed (but not suprised to be honest) when the silly sod wrapped up the chips and gave me the gravy in a little pot!
Southerners eh?
I got some in the South Pole last year
you can get chips n gravy in south west (bristol) in most chippys

Thanks for answering everyone. Fantastic! This means i can now travel down south!

But is the southern gravy proper gravy-the big thick dark brown tar like stuff we have up north, or is it watery and pale?

Also, it is the law to have lots of vinegar on the chips and gravy so the vinegar forms small golden pools that shimmer......God I'm STARVING now .
ooooh that thick dark gravy...:o) I seem to remember a chippy in Manchester that had light coloured gravy ~ not like my northern chinese chippy at all!

KFC gravy is thick, but light in colour. Better than nowt I suppose..
You can get it in most chippies in South Wales. I think
I've never ever seen a chippy ofer gravy with CHIPS!?!?! - I know the the saying is don't knock tell you try it.....BUT, chips with gravy.......it's all a little like peter kay's 'GARLIC BREAD' to me........

I'll stick to Pie & Mash with licker.....Thank you.
