Ok i am going to try and get up before 8am each day this week despite being on holiday. Had porridge for breakfast and am going to swim each day. I also want to improve one thing about myself:- I have a fair amount of acne and blackheads mainly on my face, though not as bad as when i was a teenager but i still want to treat this. What is the best way to do this? I am hoping getting five a day and exercise will help, in addition i am washing more and using a cleanser before bed each night started last night.

Drink lots of water (i swear by it). It all depends on your type of skin (mine is very sensitive but oily and i get spots on my chin, although when I was younger I use to get them bad). My dr says that i should try and put as little on my skin as possible as it just aggravates it more.

I eat a lot of fruit and veg and that helps too.

I use the simple product range and they have a good range for people prone to spots - i also use biorre which seems good. You many want to try the blackhead removal strips - just be careful not too go mad as any changes can aggravate your skin.

I have recently started doing a lot of exercise and i have found that it has brought me out odd spots - but as time goes on my skin is settling down again.

Depending on how bad your skin is (although my skin isnt so bad, i just get the odd few spots on my chin - hormonal related) and how much money you have but there are some pretty good laser treatments around these days - i have had a few sessions - you might even be able to get it on the NHS.

Oh and there is some product called freederm not sure if any good though. Good luck with it all hun xxx
Good Morning Steve, well done you, this is a really positive step forward!

Surrey Girl is right drink lots of water - 8 glasses a day is recommended - this hydrates your body and skin and also cleanses you internally and removes toxins from the body which helps keep the skin clear.

Clean skin is very important and so is gentle exfoliating (removal of dead skin cells) the best way to do this is with Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, although this is a 'womans' product loads of men use it, so don't be put off. It's relatively inexpensive.

Eating loads of fruit and veg is also a good plan - again a quick way of getting loads in one go is making a smoothie - assorted fruit like banana, berries, mango, peach etc, dollop of yogurt, honey if you like, an some milk, in a liquidiser - yummy!

Making homemade vegetable soup is another good way of getting five a day also simple, fry of a few onions in a little olive oil add vegetables of choice, carrotts celery, potato, tomato etc stock cube some water and simmer until cooked then liquidise.

(You may notice a liquidiser or hand held 'whizzer' is fairly useful in a healthy eating programme !! )

Swimming is great exercise as is cycling and walking.

You're doing great Steve I'm really proud of you!
Morning Steve - what a coincidence - Im on an attempt to be heathier today as well.I am also having porridge for breakfast, soup ou beans on wholemeal toast for lunch, and meat/fish and loads of veg for dinner.Plus loads of water inbetween.I can't exercise until my foot heals but I will get there!

Hey there pink..

Hope you foot heals soon. I would go for the nutritious home made vegetable soup which i must say i am a dab hand at but thinking of going for a swim this afternoon so that would not work!!
For your complexion try taking a daily sauna, even our teenage lads don't have very bad spots as they sauna everyday. Helps with weight control too and is great before swimming ( hot steam opens your pores, cold water closes them.) Don't ever stay in longer than is comfortable though. We all do that every day and touch wood are reasonably fit for our ages and stress levels.Lol.

Hum ok well, i suppose we have a facial steamer that i could use each day. Perhaps a hot bath would have the same effect in terms of the whole body?

Anyway there is a sauna at the local swimming pool, though i would be a bit nervous about using it as i have never used one before.
Cleansings good so keep that up and don't forget to use toner afterwards as it gets rid of the residue and closes pores back up. Use a light moisteuriser, nothing too oily. As others have said a healthy diet and lots of water is also good. Also I find walking in the fresh air helps my skin, especially when the weather is cool and crisp like it is at the moment. Make sure you get enough sleep too.

Aloe Vera gel or tea tree oil is great to dry up a spot rather than picking at it. You could even consider going for a facial at a salon to start off your regime (depends how you feel about this being that not many men do this) it would certainly benefit you though and they'll probably give you some free samples of expensive products. Don't buy any though, cheap ones work just as well.

Good luck with it all, I wish I had your motivation!

Well i have done well with eating fruit and veg etc but im getting very stressed at the moment about things i have on for the next two weeks or so.

I wanted to try to swim or run each day but have not managed to do either today. Tommorow I will be doing voluntary admin for the day at a charity and have a job application to do in the evening. I should be able to run tommorow morning but no time for a swim. Should fit a swim in wednesday to friday.

I am supposed to do some conservation work wednesday but not sure i can go as it is really too far away where the task is this week. i dont feel like i can say no and feel like it will be me slipping back and not getting involved in things as i didnt go last week and cant go next week because of getting new carpet fitted.

I get very stressed out unless i do things to my standards...ie if i have started a voluntary commitment i like to try and keep it up.
Don't be so hard on yourself and don't try to do too many things all at once. Excersing 3/4 times a week for half an hour is fine. As long as you are getting enough fruit and veg, drinking lots of water, eating a healthy diet and keeping up with the cleansing your complexion and health should improve anyway.

Make time for relaxation too, getting stressed won't do you any good at all. Acknowlegde the fact that you're only human and look at the good things you've already started to do. Doing voluntary work is very good for the soul but if you can't make it one week I'm sure they'll understand. They will appreciate the help you do give, many people don't undertake any voluntary work at all.

Try not to set your plans if stone e.g. today I must do x,y and z. I know this is easier said than done because I'm much the same as you but what I try and do now is write down a few things I hope to do in the day (as well as those I have to) and tick them off as I achieve them. This gives you a feeling of accomplishment and ensures you don't forget anything important. If I don't achieve something one day I look at what I did manage to do, pat myself on the back and put it on the next days list.

Good luck and keep calm!

thank you very much for your kind words. Yes i suppose there are guys that i work with in my "day job" which i am on two weeks holiday from at the moment, and they are like oh what do you want to go giving up YOUR time to do so much etc?

You are right there is only so much a person can cope with. The last time i drove to a conservation task, two weeks ago, i got lost and ended up driving about double the distance before finding the place! so if i am not confident about driving to the place then i am reluctant to go. Thinking about what you have said it would make me feel better if i could have some free time/space this wednesday. So will phone or e-mail them to say i wont be avaliable until wednesday 1st.

thank you for your time in givin me help, i really appreciate it.
Your welcome. Spend the day doing something for you and enjoy!
