Lots of people have all sorts of jobs that involve working on Saturdays and Sundays - and in your case, the hours then are probably still pretty reasonable. You say you've 'not been working weekends for over a year', but I'm sure you don't want to go back to the unrewarding (in all senses!) part-time jobs you had last year?
bednobs: So true. I used to work every weekend and still have no money lol. I actually enjoyed my job though, so I didn't mind. I got to socialise with people and get paid to do it.
I chose to see the good side to not having to work some weekdays (watching people setting off for work at 08:00 on a weekday morning), and I suspect those very people probably thought the same about the weekends, for me. Swings and roundabouts!
Abbey you really have to "grow up" and start living in the real world. While a job in Selco is not an emergency service it is still a Service Job and shift work, weekends, holidays and late shifts are a part of that job. I am sure you will not be asked to work every weekend and holiday but you will be expected to be a team player and work your fair share of "unsocial shifts". If you want to get on in life accept that you have to sometimes work when you would rather not. What is the reason for not telling your mum that you are required to work some weekends. You are an adult and must accept the responsibilities of a working adult
