Weird Issue - Angry Jerking Twitches

im on amitryptaline & ive noticed when i get tired i start to twitch - mostly head & neck, however when i came off it, they continued, just less.

im back on it now & same thing happens.

but now ive become more aware of the twitching & a very weird effect it has -
with each twitch, im utterly furious, with my face contorted into an angry scowl, teeth bared, but its literally only for the split second of the jerk.
I will sort of huff out a breath, through the nose & teeth, like the way boxers do when they are pretending to punch someone, like practice punches.
But i'm not remotely angry really & its gone again as quick as it starts, no after effect at all, im just sitting there, calmly reading or whatever, & this will happen??
im baffled!
the frequency changes depending on how sleepy i am

Any ideas on this? - if it was just the physical movements i'd just think it was just muscle spasms, but the split second rage, is actually genuine rage, in my mind, not just physical.

thanks for any help :)

Are you a woman in your 50s? A quick google threw up that women in this age group are more likely to experience rage due to taking that drug.
No mention of it being fleeting, though. How peculiar. It could be alarming to fellow passengers if it happened on the bus.

thanks, yes i am.

i keep thinking of that bit in Lord of the Rings when Bilbo suddenly snarls & his eyes go black - just for a second - almost blink & you miss it - its like that. i feel no rage whatsoever except for in that second. very weird.

where did you read that? ive googled & found nothing - hard to know what to type in though too

im 52 this year & last time i was on them, i was probably about 42 & didnt have it that time - although im on a much higher dose - then it was just 10mg, now its 70mg.

Just occurred to me i may need to go up to that a bit slower, the doc gave me 70 but didnt say anything about slowly
id been taking them at varied doses depending on my pain that day as i had acute trapped nerve pain, & then after that decided to stay on them.
"Anger is found among people who take Amitriptyline hydrochloride, especially for people who are female, 50-59 old, have been taking the drug for < 1 month."

You've had a rough time. If you can speak to your GP preferably, or your pharmacist, about managing this drug and discuss whether an alternative might be better for you.
You really should have been given very clear instructions about how to take it, how much and when.

barry - only just seen your replies - thanks for the link.
thing is im not actually angry at all, & the rage is literally for a second, during the twitch, & then its gone again. its notthing to do with whats on my mind at the time.

I liken it to - you know that scene in lord of the rings, when bilbo baggins eyes flash black for a second & his face takes on an evil look then its normal again, like it 'escaped' from him for a second.
it really is that quick, its like the twitch is releasing it.
I guess its a bit like when someone stamps their feet or punches a wall in anger, like that quick burst of agression released it & calmed it down, except there is nothing making me angry or making it build up.

I imagine its a little bit like people with tourettes, where the words etc will just come out of them in a second & they cant stop it, but its gone again after it.

ive never had it before - i was on amitryptaline about 10myears ago, but i was also on duloxetine so if it is the amit, assume the duloxetine calmed these sorts of effects.

when i was about 12-13  i had 2 facial tics for a few months each, no cause that i can tell. they went away & that was that.
