whether or not i personally am better off is less important to me than whether or not it is actually good for the country... the government is not there for me personally or any one individual it is there to govern our infrastructure is rubbish we have terrible public services and huge numbers of people who are stuck between stagnant earnings and soaring...

Don't we just love how AB just oozes empathy.

Makes my heart go all warm and fuzzy.♡♡

Everybody feels the same Pasta - even you - the difference is I'm honest about it.

You will look after your own before you look after others. That's the correct and moral thing to do.

It's all very well pretending on an anonymous website you are full of feeling for others, and if that makes you feel good about yourself that's great, but if push would come to shove you wouldn't be as caring. You just wouldn't. And that is fine.

Same as last year, i.e. nowt extra for me

I had a go on the calculator, and I'm a lefty.
I'll be £10 a week worse off.

I'm £21.25 better off. God bless Jeremy Hunt! If everyone in the upper deciles does as well as me, Tory election victory is assured... isn't it?

Despite the calculator telling me no change, today's newspapers are full of the hit to pensioners' pockets. So should it be believed ?

Interestingly if the hit is true one wonders why a Chancellor would put pensioners' backs up given that many habitually vote for his party, or did.

The calculator (probably) gives your actual gain/loss.

The "hit" being reported is the difference that would have been made if personal allowances had been increased (I think).

for workers the failure to increase PAs is offset by the reduction of NI.

It kinda reminds me of Gordon Brown abolishing the 10p tax rate. He had to backtrack & ending up giving the better off a bonus while to poorer still lost out.

An even worse chancellor than Hunt!
