not sure it's categorized like that.
Don't tend to see places called hypermarkets in UK, usually supermarket or superstore. hypermarkets are usually in Europe.

I believe that a "hypermarket" sells all sorts of household goods including furniture and electricals, much more than you would expect to find in "superstores" like Tesco or Asda.
I can't see why the number of checkouts should be relevant.
