My grandson is on the cusp of doubting Father Christmas's existence.  We've been mentioning the spirit of Christmas that is around at this time of year and how there are many ways of showing people how you care. Not much about on here with some, is there?

^^^^ no..

I agree Roo.

sandyRoe. Addiction = Drink and drugs in 99% of cases. And in those 99% most if not all refuse accomodation thats offered because they are not allowed to continue with drink and drugs in or outside of that accomadation. Hence they choose the streets. You really do have to help yourself before expecting others to help. Sooner or later they have to realise that booze and drugs are just digging a bigger hole for themselves.

I donate every single month to a homeless charity without a doubt but at Christmas (whether I'm right or wrong) if I see a beggar on the street I physically give him money.  I do know it could go to drugs, drink whatever but if that makes him happy for an hour or so that's ok by me - it's his money after all.

I would give to a beggar on the street - the  amount of cash it would take him/her to get to our local homeless charity by bus and I give directions.  Said charity (The Hinge) does wonderful  work and we and others support it as much as possible.  The food collection box at our church has, I think I'm about right, provided coming up to 1,000 meals over the  last  12 months.  We are a village of some 240 dwellings.

We give what we can.  I would not send cash to a large, unknown organisation.
