As the question (subject: Twinkle, twinkle, little star) dates from about one year, I taught useful to put my comments also in a new entry............HUMMMMM.....SO........It was very " la mode" for composers to write VARIATIONS on other composers' themes or using popular tunes. When it was their own theme, it was always SPECIFICALLY mentionned...... So we know FOR SURE that MOZART DID NOT compose the melody in question..................... MOZART wrote 12 Variations on "Ah!, vous dirai-je, maman, K.263 , for keybord (1778). The theme, a favorite one for variations at this period, may possibly be by Alexandre-Nicolas DEZDE (1740-1792)............(suite next post...)

......(suite)..........It can also be heard in the Opera Le Torador by Adolphe-Charles ADAM (1803-1856)......but most certainely, Adam DID NOT composed it, he just used that popular tune in his Opera.........(Incidentally, Adam is the one who composed Cantique de Nol -MINUIT CHRTIEN- O HOLY NIGHT)...........And last but not the least: MADO ROBIN, the french cantatrice used to sing variations on Ah!, vous dirai-je, maman in an arrangement by a certain R. Legrand............................. As for the lyrics, it must exist in lots of languages......I would appreciate if u can post here the versions u have in your own language......like english, french, norvegian, russian...chinese (why not?) ...etc...
