How do they choose spam names?

In my junk folder, the spam emails keep on piling up. A recent spate of them were headed "Re: Hi" as though in response to some "Hi" message I'd supposedly sent. Does anyone actually fall for this? One reason I ask is the ludicrousness of the names these emails are meant to be from. Surely we'd know if we'd been exchanging emails with people with names like these - and I thought I'd show you some as, despite the infuriating reason for their existence, some of them are very funny:

Egun Gundersen
Sibylla Grondin
Laci Nunnally
Cleto Jernigan
Freeman Makowski
Nikodemos Delafuente
Leela Hodak
Digby Lyford
Deodan McCracken

Many (most?) are randomly generated. They have access to large databases of names, and randomly pick and choose the names from there.

They have to keep making new names up, because if they just used one name, a simple rule could be made to stop all emails from someone by that name/email address.
