How are they anagrams?

In the last clue in your list, the E is incorrect.

VENDER is the third one, lashley (and yes, it's an anagram of a city).

Sorry, the 2nd one is... (can't even count up to 3 now}.

thanks-now have 4th one

On your list what was the first one -which might unlock your fourth

Presumably 38 across begins with M as this gives me an anagram of a city associated with witchcraft?

That's correct, although the answer isn't the one associated with withcraft. It's spelled the same but in a different place. (Yeah I know, I'm a pedant ha!)

The first one is an odd word - it could be a googly in cricket or an ex-friend of Oscar Wilde.

You're right about the name but it isn't the one famous for its witches - there's another place more specific to the theme.

So if the first one is the friend of Oscar Wilde and it is an odd word then i am not sure that that can be turned into a City/town or if it can then its one i have never heard of. Crikey this is a hard one this week and if it it what i think it is then that gives

UNI?T? for the unclued 3 down

JP, 13 A  (in its original version) is fairly well-known.  And 3 D is really, really well-known... think Texas.

You're right about Oscar's bestie...now swap round the S and the I for a city in the Spud State.

They're both right. Have you found what's common to all of them yet (and why the place of witches isn't one of them)? Once you have that you'll find a pretty short list of all of the unclueds.

sorted on 3D thanks

having a break and will return

and thanks re 13A

Will have to think about what is common to them

Take a break...capital idea!

Yes ho ho!

Struggling with the last pair. have the 5,5 one and if your hint on the other thread is correct then i am looking for a 4 + 8. there are only 2 members of the set with 12 letters. One is 3 words and the other is one word. But i cant see a combination of two clued clues with those letters in. i must be going wrong soemwhere?

JP, in case it helps - you'rer actually looking for an 8,4. It is definitely in the list, alongside the others.
