Is my yukka plant poisonous - The cat has been stopped a few time from trying to chew at it.
I had a quick google and haven't found info on that aspect.
Not sure if Yukka is a generic term that covers different incarnations of the same thing - like Cactus could mean any one of hundreds of types- some have chemical effects and some do not.
If the Yukka is poisonous it can go in the greenhouse where the cat can't go - its in the Kitchen at the moment.
Thanks for any reply..

Your yucca, if it's a true indoor species is possibly called Y. Elephantipes and, delving into the back of my ever forgetful mind, is a member of the lilly family (lillyacae).

As far as i know, the Yucca is non poisonous to pets. We had a large one at home and the cat used to claw and chew the ends.

However, i would grow this plant in a greenhouse where it will receive maximum light....they are a kind of semi arid plant which thrives in dry, very sunny conditions. A min winter temperature of around 5 degrees c is probably ok but they must not get frosted.

Hope this helps a bit.

Yes - Thanks
Hi there,
my cat also, for some stange reason, liked chewing my pointy-leafed plants! (why do they do that?!!)
anyway,as i was not always on hand with the old waterpistol deterrent,we settled for a compromise and i grew some catnip. This seems to be a designer drug just for cats, she loved it!! I loved watching her after she 'd had a nibble! (you may have noticed that i've been using the past tense a lot, thing is, she lived till past fourteen!)
