We have recently replaced our CD/R, CD/RW, DVD/R drive and added a drive that includes DVD/RW. Windows XP doesn't recognise the DVD/RW. How do we get some software to do this? We don't want to copy films so we don't want NERO or anything like that-we just want to copy DVDs that we have made ourselves. Any ideas please?

Didn't the new drive come with a disc containing the required driver program necessary for Xp to recognise the new hardware? the disc should also contain an application for copying DVDs. Don't knock Nero - it's a pretty good program, and will do want you want. No doubt more ideas will be posted! :-)

Thanks for the answer, but no, the new drive didn't come with any software. The guy in the shop said that there was stuff on the internet which we could download, but its a minefield out there! We don't know how to go about this.
1. Is the new DVD drive set as master on the cable & jumpers?
2. Do you know the brand name & model of it to find drivers for it, if necessary?

Its an LG GSA rewriter but we have looked for their website and can't see it. Its so frustrating because we can't get it to work. Mind you, we are complete luddites when it comes to computers! I don't understand about 'jumpers' and things-what are they? could there be a setting we need to turn on in the computer somewhere?
mazzywoo - the jumper is a tiny wee thing that you slot into the back of the DVD drive. You'll need to open your PC up to get at it.
In this picture the circled bit has 1,2 and 3 : if you look at the back of your new DVD drive, these will likely say "Master, Slave, Cable Select". The jumper needs to be at Master and anything else attached to the same grey (IDE) cable as your DVD drive needs to be set as the Slave.

Did you open your PC and install this or someone else?
