My eldest son is getting married this weekend. His fiancée has gone slightly bridezilla, but she’s entitled to. Anyway, the problem is that she is insisting on doing the traditional top table with her parents and my sons(me and my ex). I haven’t been with his dad for years and years - we split up due to his violent behaviour. He is a nasty, aggressive bully. But she has seated me and him at the top table, along with her parents, and has sat my husband in amongst the rest of the guests on a table of 8 people he doesn’t know. He’s really not happy and nor am I - I’m only going along with this for my son, but he knows I cannot stand my ex - he made my life a misery. This will also be the very first time that my husband has seen my ex, after 17 years!

Went to grandson's wedding in June this year. Similarly fraught situation with groom's parents (now just divorced). It worked out OK by seating the groom's father at one end and his mother at the other. No 'significant others' for either fortunately - but a lot of other strain with family members who do not speak to other f. members. Again solved by putting the factions on different tables. Good luck!

Sorry guys, I got logged out! It seems that what his fiancée wants, she gets! They’ve been together since they were at school! I’ve since found out that I’m apparently being sat nxt to her father on one side of the newly married couple, and my ex is being sat the other side nxt to her mum.
smow - just fall in with the arrangements - eat your dinner quickly and then move to your current husband - weddings cause so much heartbreak and I do not go to them as I can see the tension.

At my last wedding invitation - my friend whose son was getting married had made arrangements for you know the usual a lady singer and organ player to be there in the church. Just as they were finished setting up - the young lad's aunts, uncles, nieces etc - jumped up off their pews with musical instruments and sang all the hymns. That particular lady was one angry lady.
17.24 I was going to suggest that, as to me, it seems the perfect answer.
I hate formal weddings and find excuses not to attend. The are so boring and yes a lot of tension. As for wedding planners......
Hi, Smow :) You are probably too busy to look in today but just wanted to wish the best possible day and hope that all goes well for you at the wedding of your son. Look forward to reading about it when you can. Trust you have enough mobility to get through what will no doubt be a long day. x
