We still don’t have a properly functioning kitchen so are still camped out in the utility room with the microwave. We’ve had beans on toast, scrambled eggs on toast, reheated homemade chilli and curry (not on the same plate, different days) this week.
Today we’re having prawns in seafood sauce on a bed of little gem lettuce, pea shoots, baby spinach leaves, chopped cucumber and cherry tomatoes, with some fancy bakery bread and I’m really looking forward to it.
What I’m not looking forward to is the big clear up once the kitchen is finished, there’s even plaster and brick dust upstairs!!
Anyhow, that’s me, what about you?

I have just over a week to empty my freezer and then the new kitchen is to be fitted.

I have no idea what is in the freezer apart from bread for toast, Fab ice lollies and some Iceland fried rice.

I will choose later - nearer dinner time.

I have a choice of 10 meals sent to me yesterday paid for by my Australian friend
Poached salmon in lemon water & covered with sliced lemon, small potatoes in an oil/garlic/herb dressing (whatever I can glean) and mixed greens. Butter to melt on demand.

Some lovely meals to be had today by you lot, if I had to pick I’d have Barmaids pizza in a field with alcohol. Whilst I’m not much of a bbq fan, I do enjoy Al fresco eating in a field.
Helen, had to look up what the piggy thing is, still not quite sure, but sounds like a good start to your 21st birthday celebrations ;o)
Anne, no we haven’t had takeaways at all, not a great fan of them to be honest. Microwaved Scrambled egg, beans heated in microwave, toast in toaster, frozen leftover chilli and curry heated in microwave, microwaved ready cooked rice, lots of fruit, some all bran cake made in advance, all very easy and quick without using a hob or oven.
That’s nice for you jj, makes life a bit easier for you with what you have going on at the moment.
We have great fun, Vagus. Our little hamlet is quite a sociable one and we do not need an excuse to light a bonfire, crank up the pizza oven, put some tunes on the sound bar and all turn up with some beer and fizz (and a dish of something). We have a seriously good life out here in the back end of beyond.

I wish we lived in the back end of beyond, I think we’ve left it a bit late now, should have done it ten years ago. Impromptu gatherings like yours sound are great, I hate formality, give me a pair of wellies and a waterproof coat and I’ll go anywhere. No need to say enjoy it, I’m sure you will :)
Jj. A lovely gesture from your friend .
Aa. Very nice indeed
As I'm away house sitting again from tomorrow I've being emptying my freezer to defrost it before I go, all that's left for tonight's Tea is Frozen peperoni Pizza and Oven Chips.
Pub grub I think.
Question Author
How long are you house sitting for Arky? A very long time if you’re having to defrost the freezer?? Or does it need defrosting anyway and it’s a good opportunity? These days I couldn’t eat pizza and chips, the pizza is enough. Or the chips (in a butty..real butter, tomato ketchup, thick sliced white bread, mmmmmm)
Pub grub, what will you choose dusty, a salad because of the heat or a traditional pub meal just because you can ;) ?
Hi yes the freezer needed doing anyway, It'll be just under two weeks but recent events from Greece (Can't remember which part) it maybe a bit longer. Playing it safe booked my Tesco delivery for the day after the day they're due back.
2x baked potatoes ( small) dont take so long to bake. A few king prawns, little snippits of bacon and peppers fryed in fresh garlic. Yummy.
When this thread started, we (myself, daughter and her partner) were on the terrace of the Camel Valley winery. Following a tour, we were already sampling the 4 wines we were presented with...plus some nibbles as we'd not had breakfast.
Lunch was sauteed lemon and garlic prawns for me...and wine.
No cooking tonight...a spread of cheeses, cold meats, pate, and olive ciabatta bread. And more wine.
