I am waiting for a replacement hip, when I saw the surgeon in February he said he would do it but I need to lose two stone and get the water off my lower legs. Since then I have lost one stone six pounds. The stone came off easily, the rest has been a struggle with no loss some weeks. I'm due to see the surgeon again in three weeks and just can't get any more pounds off, any ideas, please? I've not exactly been calorie counting in earnest but know what to avoid, have drastically cut portion size and tried eating my main meal at lunchtime. The water on my legs is still with me despite various water tablets, I'm waiting for an appointment at heart failure clinic. I'm desperate to get my hip done.

Has this to do with having an anaesthetic? If so, perhaps they could do an epidural instead. Ask them when you go to the clinic.

Ask them when you go to the clinic.

I don't know, he didn't mention anything like that. I've already decided to go for epidural so will talk it over with him. Thanks for your suggestion.
No help to you, I'm sure, but at the turn of the year I found a fortnight dose of Covid dropped my weight considerably.
I do recommend restricting carbs though. It does seem to help with weight loss.

As for water retention, is there any suggestions on YouTube that are worth trying ?
For the water issue in your legs, have you considered compression socks and dry brushing upwards?
Question Author
Thanks for your replies. I have reduced carb intake which I'm sure helped to start with. I've been wearing compression stockings for over a year now at the suggestion from the ambulatory clinic. Old and confused, interested in the dry brushing, I had the lady in to do my feet and she was talking about something similar, it helps to drain the lymphatic system, I'll give it a go.All good suggestions.
Fast until lunchtime each day and just have two small, carb-free meals such as scrambled eggs at midday and a tuna or chicken salad at around 5pm. Only eating in that 5-hour window will reset your metabolism and you will lose some weight, particularly if you resist all carbs.

Bread is your enemy !!
Your weight is not your problem..........your problem is the oedema (water in your legs) which might suggest some heart failure.

The reply by Barsel says it all.

Thank you again for the replies. I quite often don't feel like eating before lunch and get tokd I should eat a good breakfast so I'll go for LadyCGs suggestion.
Squad, yes, some heart failure. I have regular blood tests to check kidneys and, I discovered heart , had a call from a new dr saying something in my blood suggested heart failure, just slightly. Been referred to heart clinic but will have to wait months for an appointment. He said my blood tests had shown this for some time but nobody had picked it up. I have no other symptoms apart from odaema.
roo....the surgical team will not touch you until an assessment from the Cardiac Clinic.

Be patient roo.........not easy i know.

Oh squad, I don't know what I'll do if I have to wait much longer. I can hardly get out of the house now and life is very difficult, to say the least. I've been told it could be months before I get an appointment at the heart clinic. It's been just over two years now and getting worse.
Thanks for BA roo, hope you managed to get sorted soon.
IMO, going back to the weight aspect, I'd not feel obliged to have a hearty breakfast if you don't feel like it, were I you. As the name suggests, it is to break your overnight fast. But from what I come across on the internet, fasts are supposed to be good for you. Just don't save eating all until near the end of the day. Maybe have a main meal lunchtime ?

Good luck with the rest of it.

Thanks for the good wishes, old geezer. I am trying having my meal in the middle of the day. I cook some nights for my menfolk as they work and then save my meal for the next lunchtime. At the moment that doesn't seem to be making any difference but we'll see. I saw a friend who I haven't seen for several months today and she could see I have lost weight which is encouraging.
