Since Latest Update - I've Lost The Blue 'Return' Arrow.

Well, as the title said. I switched off just over a week ago and got an option to 'update & close down' - which I did, having always been told to let it (Toshiba lap-top) get on with things. It's always been OK before.
However, I now sometimes don't have a 'return' blue/black arrow in the top left-hand corner near the browser bar. I've been away and so only become fully aware of it this last week.
Example: I'll click on a new subject here in News and it will give a link to click and read about the subject. In the past I could click on the link, read it, then click on the arrow and return to the AB question.
Not any more. The moment I click on a link the arrow disappears and I have to clear and go back to the beginning to get onto AB. This is a nuisance BUT - today and yesterday we have been trying to find a holiday cottage for Sept..
I go to the site, eg Cottages'R us or whatever see a likely-looking cottage, click on for the details and the same thing happens. I can't return to the home site.
Any comprehensible advice, please?

One method of solving the difficulty of returning to a recently opened webpage is by pressing the standard keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + H.

Bing is a search engine, not a web browser.
I'm guessing that you're using Microsoft Edge (because that's the only browser which would default to using Bing as a search engine).
If so, click the three dots at the top right and then click Settings. From the left-hand panel, select Restore Settings. Then click on 'Restore settings to their default values' in the right-hand panel, followed by click on the blue 'Reset' button. (Note that doing so will log you out of any sites, such as The AnswerBank, that you might be logged into).
I'm baffled as to why you appear to be using Microsoft Edge though. Most people now switch to Chrome or to a lesser-known alternative, such as Slimjet (which I'm using).

PS: Your method of navigating between pages seems a little odd to me too. If, say, you've got a page of links to different holiday cottages which you need to choose between, it's best to RIGHT-click on a link and select 'Open in new tab'. To return to the index page, you can simply switch tabs. Then you can repeat the right-clicking process for each cottage which looks to be of interest, resulting in you having a different tab open for each cottage. It's then easy to move between the tabs, enabling you quickly to be able to compare the cottages.
Hi, Buen - I've just had a torrid, terrifying time trying to follow your instructions. The wording had changed etc.. I've just checked that I can get back onto here, email etc.. You have no idea how frightening (literally) all this stuff is. I'll now see how I go on cottages etc. using your ideas. T.b.h. I wondered what you were on about with R-click as I don't have a mouse, just a touchpad and I've always just hit that hard. I now have had a go at the 2 oblong keys below the oblong and they seem to work as a mouse! I've only had this 2 yrs. :)
'Bing' was what the machine used when I got it and I'm scared to change it. I didn't know what a web browser/search engine difference was ( still not clear). I'll happily debate 17th Century literature, etc. with you? But computers........ I am almost totally null. :)

Thanks, ladybirder.... I'm just so confused at the moment that I'm incredibly glad that I still have email, facebook and AB. It really is frightening to me.
I wouldn't know how to set anything up. I bought the (clean) laptop from a local IT expert (he writes columns which I don't understand in the local paper) and just went with what I'd got (he set up my email etc.).

When you click on a link, it will open the page in place of the page you were on - unless the page was created with an option to open the result of the link in a new page or tab.
Right-clicking is doing the same thing - opening the page in a new tab.

Thanks, Tuvok, but I couldn't make much of that either, except that a message said 'Microsoft accepts Bins as your provider' or something like that. Then to get rid of it I had to click the cross on the top r.hand corner and start again.
It seems, now I've thought about it more, that it is the tab which used to pop up above things like links, which has disappeared. There used to be a sticking-up bit which you could click to return from a link. It's not there any more.
