Hi, I’ve decided to start a travel blog as I’m lucky enough to go away quite a lot. I’m looking for a small, easy camera that’s also suitable under water. I’ve been told a go pro is great for that but can anyone recommend which one please? Short videos.. tours.. excursions.. so nothing major. Thanks!

How much do you want to spend?
Would you prefer a cheaper camera now and maybe upgrade later if you find you enjoy using it and it's worthwhile, or dive straight in at the high end?

I would recommend you ask other vloggers for recommendations, they are usually happy to talk about their kit.

Don't forget you can buy waterproof housing for non-waterproof cameras.

I have seen fantastic travel vlogs filmed entirely on smartphone.

Consider also the mic, wind and background noises can really spoil the footage
i was going to buy my husband a go-pro
then i realised that the camera on his i phone was vastly superior in function to anything i could afford!

My budget was about 300-400.. I’ve thought about the water proof case but I’m terrified it’ll fail on me and ruin my phone! But I’ll certain consider it. I’ve messaged some bloggers prior but some of them have huge cameras! And I certainly don’t need one of those.. Thank you though! :)

Hi Pasha, I've been talking to my vlogger friend and he recommends you spend a month doing rehearsal vlogs with your phone. The planning, filming, narrating, editing.
That way you will have a better idea of what aspects of filming are most important to you and it will help you decide which camera to go for.
You may be able to buy additional lenses for your phone as well as a better mic - that might give you more options and be cost effective.
He also pointed out that music will probably be important in your vlogs, to cover noisy background noise when you aren't speaking. Research royalty free music because if you intend using platforms like YouTube the number of annoying adverts will increase if the music is not royalty free.
