Last Friday I went for my annual diabetic eye screening and today I got a letter advising me to go on the 12th July to a hospital 20 miles away for an OCT surveillance scan. Normally I get you have early diabetic changes see you within a year. Anybody know what an OCT scan is and is it likely to be related to what they saw in my eye screening last week?

It's a very accurate 3d scan, gordie, recommended for a proper look.
Probably it is that they have more up-to-date equipment at the other hospital. That was the reason when a relative was asked to do the same as you.

Thanks Douglas
Nae bother.
OCT scanners are used in Specsavers and other High Street opticians, too.
They will give the most accurate possible results to your doctors.
You are in good hands, Gordie!
Do they do a 'while you wait' service, or do you have to come back for them later ?
Try not to worry, Gordie. Two or three years ago I was told I had diabetic retinopathy after my routine diabetic eye screening. A year later the test showed I didn't have it. Whether I did have it and it went away or they made a mistake, I don't know.

The OCT scan is very quick and painless. Shame you have to travel so far when so many opticians have the equipment to do it. Good luck
Join the club. I was told last time I had background diabetic retinopathy and this year it had spread to the macula so needed another check in three months. Before I asked the optician the doctor told me not to worry about it. I had the same photos taken weeks earlier at the optician and they didn't see any problems.
