I had one in the late 60s /70s.
It looked a bit like a George Foreman type grill with a hinged lid that could accommodate different heights and ribbed plates.
I used to make batter puddings such as pineapple upside down cake in a tin as well as toasted sandwiches, steaks and fish.
Corn on the cob too.

Nobody I speak to remembers them. Am I misremembering?

Yes I do .Had one for many years did lovely toasted sarnies.
