Our supplier ED F say they are coming next week the fit a new meter as ours is "OLD" and we need a new one. They will be fitting a Smart one (as a matter of course!) and I contacted them and told them NO. "Not in my house, on my watch you ain't!" I was contacted by someone in a foreign call centre who told me that I had no choice. I do have a choice I argued and it turns out the meters only need a flick of a switch inside them to change from one function to another. So we are to get an unsmart one...But am i right?? Am I right to be concerned? Should I just let technology overtake me?? At 77 should I not just say "Oh grollocks to it !" And let "progress" continue?? Any thought on giving the supplier facility to turn my power off remotely and know the "Far end of a fart "???

The next thing you know out phone providers and credit cards will start using smart meters to log our use and they'll have the power to stop our accounts.
No I have had no problem...far easier than climbing in cuboard on hands and knees
Don’t have, won’t have. Not mandatory....yet....
Quite. Get cut off an you can use your friend's phone, or use cash to buy things, or you can ask your neighbour to open their gas tap and fill up your bottle for you too. No problem.
We don't have one and don't want one. Someone said he'd come to convert us, we answered that we'd no mobile reception in our house and he went away.
Why should we have one? Daughter has one and all it does is tell you obvious stuff and gives the powers that be even more information about you and power over you.

Our mobile phones will be switched off and wrapped in kitchen foil on April 23r by the way.
perhaps you can make yourself a hat at the same time jourdain
I don't have one and don't have estimated bills.
Our smart meter had to be taken away by the water company when it was discovered that we were paying our own water bill and the one for the little shop next door. The shop was also paying for its own water! The pipes were so intertwined that it would have meant digging up our garden to sort it all out. The company assessed how much we’d overpaid over the years and refunded it. Our bills are now worked out on two people living in the house.
Smart meter was never a problem until three months ago and, each month since then, I get a text stating "we are unble to communicate with your Smart meter at the moment" and, more or less, saying read it yourself. Get nowhere with calls to Scottish Power.
I get texts every now and again and just delete them, I've had letters too which I ignore. They are not yet mandatory and until they are, I won't have one. Get sick of being told what to do all the time.
Yeah, stick it to the man, fight the power, etc.

There is probably a setting on you phones to stop getting any alert calls.
