I'm really interested in other people's views on this.

I'm probably very old fashioned with my views!

Thank you. It was a struggle to raise them - no holidays for 5 years until we bought an ancient trailer tent and then we went all over Gt. Britain. They were almost the only children in their class who knew British geography and lots of history. The others just got on a plane and went to somewhere sunny with a pool. We swam in a stream on Exmoor etc..

Just do some research about the USSR kids who 'Belonged to the state' and their parents all worked. It produced a generation of some very disturbed adults,

Not that I'm suggesting our nurseries are like that but dropping off kids early morning and picking them up early evening would seem to be going in that direction!
I've not checked the origins of the rest of the claims made in the Zimbabwe article but the quote from Theresa May is from Babylon Bee, "the world’s best satire site, totally inerrant in all its truth claims. We write satire about Christian stuff, political stuff, and everyday life."

Afternoon Bednobs. Rude was perhaps not thecright word, but I thought you were upset and thought some of us were being critical of those that used nurseries. So sorry if I sounded critical. Xx

Granted it's not the best article in the world to base a worthy thread such as this one! But it was meant to provoke another view!

Incidents where social services have removed children for a period of time whilst they carry out their investigation, especially in such cases when unfounded claims of child abuse have been reported, make a good argument that children really do belong to the state.

Imagine if it was decreed that no more babies to be born in the UK, the population as we know it circa 70 million, would cease to be in a little over 100 years time. I find that truly alarming!! Governments know this too!

Those who quibble about don't have kids unless you can afford them are missing the point. The very future of the UK depends on children being born today!! To my mind every penny of tax payers money spent on a child is money well spent! Afterall is this not a wise investment??
But that's never going to happen kuiperbelt...noones saying no more children...just less if you can't afford them

Exactly Bobbin, and don't have them if you rely on Goverment handouts.
no worries. I remember always having similar discussions with AOG - he criticised me terribly for using a nursery, saying that i would be missing out on my child growing up he went a bit quiet when i asked him how much time HE spent with his children when they were under 5 tho
\don't have them if you rely on Goverment handouts\

You say this as if the family allowance was a bad thing?

For some the desire to become a parent trumps the cost of child rearing. Should JH's much needed lifeline come to fruition, parenting will become much more affordable for many!
Question Author
I don't think family allowance is a bad thing in moderation. It should be a help. It has been for many years. Nowadays its got ridiculous. I totally disagree with free childcare.
