I have never let it stop me from holidaying abroad, but I haven't been for quite some time, I am due to go to Spain early April and already my stomach flips everytime I think about the flight, so instead of looking forward to my holiday, I am just getting anxious, any tips please.

I agree with Andy. A visit to GP for a sedative to take beforehand. Any overly irrational fear doesn't disappear with a rational suggestion. See your GP x
TTT - // I don't subscribe to the general belittling of those afraid of flying, it's not "irrational", planes do crash and when they do everyone normally dies. //

I would not suggest that a phobia about flying is not based on reality, but it is out of proportion to the mathematical risk involved, and that is because it is a phobia, so rational argument about statistical chances are redundant for the sufferer.

// I have no real practical advice fruitsalad but just have some drinks and forget about it, the maths has already decreed that you are pretty close to certain to survive. Do not miss these opportunities because of a small mathematical chance. //

But as we agree TTT, this is an irrational fear, and it is unlikely to be lessened by an intake of alcohol.

Fruitsalad is not missing opportunities because of a 'small mathematical chance', but because of a very large irrational fear.

I repeat, a visit to the GP and a small dose of a tranquiliser is, in my view, the best way to overcome this phobia.
Fruitsalad stated at the outset that they've never let it stop them going on holiday so it's hardly a case of hysterical paralysis, more an annoyance.

A couple of glasses of something could well help in this case, to take the edge off.
I agree Dougie and unless one has a history then getting tranquilizers off a GP is like asking for the moon, with sprinkles, in my experience.

I think the things I don't like are the takeoff and landing mostly, but not sure it's normal to get so anxious already, maybe a day or two before
Take off is the best part..Best way to look at it is when your number's up, your number's up and that could be the case anywhere so no point in worrying about it.
