A fairly early PDM although the final move took a while to identify.
Tough but fair cluing and great fun overall.
32d almost brought us to despair but it finally gave up its secret.

Thanks, Nutmeg.

Yes, a tough but fair puzzle. I agree, 32d was the last I solved (37ac not far behind).

Thanks, Nutmeg.
I found this a lot tougher to complete than I'd expected at the outset. It's the combination of very good clues and copious clashes that did it. As a result, it was very satisfying to eventually get over the line.

Many thanks, Nutmeg!
No too difficult - but it took me an irritatingly long time to work out 19ac due to a wrong assumption about the clash.

Nice theme and some tricky clues - thanks Nutmeg, another good puzzle from a reliable setter.
I'm surprised to see only a few comments. I didn't start this until this morning (Wednesday) and have just finished in several sessions. It was 38 that almost did for me.

I agree with HawkCrossword - harder than expected owing to the numerous clashes and very good clues. It was the deft clueing that raised this above the level of the norm.
I have only just finished, although I nibbled away at it. Suspect I found it tougher than others especially given that there was a very long list of possible thematic items and several clues with unches than checked letters. I was late to identify the thematic description. That certainly helped
