Very clever puzzle. But I did have to reverse engineer from the instruction rather a lot.

Yes, I think that was the point with this one.

It wasn't clear to me why we had such an array of arithmetical gimmicks until it dawned on me what was going on - very clever indeed. The happy and lucky numbers made me laugh when I realised why they were there.

Very enjoyable - thanks, Oyler!
I agree with the reverse engineering from the instruction -- I would have preferred a purely logical puzzle which led to the instruction rather than "meeting in the middle".

As ever with Oyler's puzzles the end result was most impressive and left me in awe.

Many thanks, Oyler.
Extraordinary. Having sweated through Zag's D grade numerical in the current Magpie I thought I'd be well in the groove but this one tripped me up time and time again. I was glad of the reverse engineering. There can come a point in numericals where you can see where you are heading and are left with rather a lot of slog. A sensible guess at the emerging message did ease a lot of the gridfill.
Certainly the first time I have made use of Quinapalus Word Matcher for a numerical puzzle.

Once again I marvel at a setter's ability to construct such a puzzle.
Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. A blog will appear on LWO in three weeks which will give insights into the setting of the puzzle.
HawkCrossword - well spotted!
Cruncher - I think The Magpie were having a laugh giving Zag's a D grade. More like E+ as I required three ice-packs - a brute of a puzzle and so typical of his harder output. How he comes up with those ideas is beyond me.
Got there in the end, not helped by a careless mistake which I only picked up when I identified the instruction.

Just blown away by the cleverness of the construction!

Thanks Oyler
Good grief. Excellent puzzle. I wasn't too lucky (the usual wrong assumptions leading to numerical backtracking) but I am certainly happy at the end. Thanks, Oyler.
