My two children had to have security clearance. One before he went to do some work in MI5/6? One of them.
The other for a new job. She was one of 6 successful applicants. The other five got their clearance much quicker than she did.
The reason?

They are lucky enough to have an Irish mother. Well I'm not sure they felt lucky while they were waiting. :-)
