I loved getting The Broons and Oor Wullie books handed down from the boy next door. Bought them for my children too.
Happy memories when I see Goodgoalies avatars. :-)

Happy memories for me, too - of a more gentle world a lifetime away. And drawn by an Englishman :)

It is a lifetime away GG. Canary didn’t find them funny but I don’t think they were meant to be funny. More observational than funny. A joy to read.
Been thinking a lot about Scotland today - someone I did a lot of music with has died after a long illness. Considering my mortality.
Dudley D Watkins drew Lord Snooty as well, as I recall.
....and Desperate Dan
Oor Wullie and The Broons were never the same after their originator and drawer W.D.Watkins died.It was never the same after that.
W.D...?Dudley D Watkins....
I agree :)
I absolutely loved getting my Christmas present from my Mum every year, it was always a Broons or Oor Wullie book- I even had a metal bucket I used to sit on and loved reading the adventures, from Glebe Street to the But 'n Ben. I think the beauty of them is that we relate to the characters in them. I have never heard anyone say 'Crivvens' in real life though!
I gave a copy of Oor Wullie to my grandson for Christmas. He loved it.
He is not old enough for nostalgia.
Spungle, believe it or not,but Crivvens was a euphemism for Christ,Jings was a euphemism for Jesus,Help Ma Bob was a euphemism for Help Me God.
