I have a job lined up as passenger handling agent (you know, checking in etc) at stansted airport but because I dont drive and some shifts begin at 4am there is no way of me getting there. I really want this job though, but Id have to stay overnight for an early beginning or catch the national express from stratford (14 quid per day) to get there.

Anyone got suggestions? Of course if anybody does work at the airport and wouldnt mind checking out that I am sane, I would happily pay for their fuel if they dropped me!

you should find out if certain airline do a work bus from local pick up point, one may even be the rail station etc.

best bet,,,

if u have this job,,
ask them if they have any1 from the same area as u and see if they will pass ur details on to that person and do a car share, untill u have lernt to drive then u can then take it in turns...

u could also do this ur self at the trainning session u will have to do b4 they will let u loose on the public...

b honest with the handling agents and they will b nice to u.
maybe they can swap some shifts for u so u only do lates untill u drive......

i would have offered but i work at heathrow....
Question Author
dazf do u work as passenger handling agent too at heathrow? if so, is it hectic? tell me more...
i work for Malaysia airlines,
we have a handling agent Globe Ground Services who r ok..

I have had a few jobs at heathrow with airlines and a handling agent, and yes it can be hetic.

1st of all u will go through training time on this will depend on the handling agent and time...
but normally it should last about 2weeks maybe 3.
you will get trainned on the computer system that u will b using, and also maybe the airlines system if the airline uses their own system.
they might also show u around the airport as well so u can get familarised with it, if and when u have to go to the gates for boarding or meet a flight.

once u have finished ur training u will be given a partner who will show u the ropes in front of the passengers as it is a lot different than being in a class room...

LHR is a lot different from STN.
STN has a lot less flights and from what i remember when i did work up their for a few years with ELAL it can be busy their as well, but mainly with business people in the early hours and late at nite,, most of the other time it is with tourist going on package holidays.

any other info e-mail me [email protected]
where do you have to travel from to get to Stansted ?
what happens if the person you rely on for a lift changes shift ?
ask personnel of the company who is going to employ you how others manage and start driving lessons immediately.
Dont turn the job down even if it means paying the 14 until you see how things are once you join the team, no pain no gain.
Good luck with your new job.
