The dustmen (there are no women on my local team) have just emptied my bins and recycling. Happy days.
Such a cheery team, too

Same here barry1010, I don't think many around here expected it, so few bags n boxes were out! They did however make a mess but picked it all up when my neighbour went out to collect his bags. Normally they'd drive off. Glad all the clutter rubbish has gone, feel cleansed somehow!
Yep, they're due here today. I just wonder when it will be their turn to take strike action.
Same here!
Hope you put boxes of chocolates - I do , and they are excellent - the dustbin men I mean:-)
Came here this morning! Took everything even the food caddy which was over full.
Around here they're thinking of upping our weekly recycling collections to two weekly & other collections will be three weekly. I really hope that it is vetoed as this is a terrible idea.
Another rubbish thread.:0)

I agree, Sharon. A lot of councils provide only fortnightly or even three weekly collections which really isn’t good enough for many households. I believe some councils only collect once a month.
They are emptying our bins now, bless them. They usually work Bank Holiday mondays but had the day off this year and I think they deserved it.
We have fortnightly collections of rubbish ( black bin) and then recycling and garden rubbish bins. It works ok, been like it for ages now. You can ask for a bigger recycling bin if you need it but if you need a new black bin it's smaller. ( though I think large households can request a bigger one)
Dustmen? Surely 'Waste Disposal Operatives'
Dustmen, Barry! What are they? ;-). We have to deal with our own rubbish here. No council tax though. We can hire a private company but the can't get the lorry up the lane. Makes us careful of waste.

Not wishing to dampen your thread but, if I may, an example of the kindness of binmen.
When I moved to my last UK house I was surprised to hear them at around 4am or just after. I found out that a few years before a lorry had run over and killed the toddler across the road. A sheer accident but the binmen decided they would collect from our close very early so the parents didn't see the lorry every week.
