Not really a question, just looking for sympathy.
It was quite a nice day yesterday with a good thaw going on so I went out for a stroll. Of course I had to slip on a little bit of black ice. After that I spent most of the day in hospital with a very sore arm and an even worse sore leg. Loads of x-rays later and I've got a broken elbow but they cant find any broken bones in my leg. The pain though is excruciating. I'm home but struggling badly. The nurse said she will ring me today and the osteo people will be in touch also.
Ok, that's it. Hope you all have a better day than me.

Ouch, I hope they've got you on pain meds. Get well soon :)
Sorry to hear that .

Have you got someone you can lean on ?
That sounds painful - rest up and take it easy
I hope that it isn't your main arm. Your 'going to the bathroom' arm. I hope that you manage to get some relief from the pain.

I did the same thing in 1999. It was the end of the year and I slipped on black ice and tore the ligaments in my knee. I just lay there with my stupid hound staring down at me. I still remember the pain.

:-)
Oh dear...I did similar years ago when I had to take the dog out at silly o'clock...there I was on my back like a beached whale. Yes...dog just stared...
Hope the pain goes.
Oh dear. Poor you. Have you some help at home. X
Something similar happened to me, although I did avoid any serious injury. I was dog walking the rescues, and they pulled me over on the ice and didn't bother to stop walking. I had about 6 or so pooches dragging me around on my back and sides. Dogs are interesting animals.
I am sorry for you ILA. Have you anyone to look after you?
It is so difficult to manage one-handed, let alone deal with awful pain.

Ah that's nice of you all. No I live alone but I'm managing. Lots of pals have been ringing me to see what they can do. I've got some good neighbours too. It's all down my left side. Cracking bruise on my hip too. I'm right handed though so that's good. They've put me on codeine and it seems to be working a bit on my leg.
Your dog stories made me smile too. I had a daft dalmation that was constantly tripping me up and would then bounce around me like a kangaroo with a stupid look on his face. I assume he thought it was funny.
Lol the ones with dogs just staring at them, what did you expect then to do, dial 999??
I'mlostagain, feel better soon.
My neighbours dog dragged her across a field in the days before cell phones. She had to hang onto his lead and tummy crawl back over the fields to the roadside verge and hail down a car, give the driver her address and he went off to fetch her husband. We live very rural so no way so no phone booths or houses to call 999. She ended up in hospital forweeks and leg in a metal cage for six months.
Fitdarren...some dogs might...

Not a pet dog though is he? I'm sure my dog would just stare at me as well.
Thanks for answering ILA. Black ice is a beggar. It's either that or slimy, rotting leaves I have to watch out for. I am a carer 24/7 so I always have safety upper most in my thoughts when I have to go out.
Glad to know you have a good network support around you, it might even get you a dinner for Sunday I hope. :) Take care x
choux, are you a carer for your OH, if you don't mind me asking? If so, that explains why we have similar feelings (re the 'Do You Feel Afraid Of Death Sometimes?' thread) towards death. I am the same when it comes to going out (especially when Covid was at its worse), I have to make sure that I come home and don't get injured in any way.
Diz, only just saw your post. Yes, we have a lot in common then.
I know there must be others on here in similar circumstances so probably understand how important it is to take extra care. "Be prepared" seems comical at my time of life but we have to :)
No worries, I posted it less than 10 minutes before you replied :)

Five years ago, I probably wouldn't have been so scared of the thought of me getting ill and having to rely on 'the system'. I was hospitalised a few years ago with a slipped disc (I think there are posts on here from when that happened) and had informed Social Services six weeks prior to tell them that I was struggling and could no longer provide the care my OH required. To cut a very long story short, as I'm aware that this story has nothing to do with this topic, Social Services did nothing to help and my OH was left for 72 hours without any care. All she had was the bottles of water/cordial and junk food that I had left on the bed for her, and urine bottles by the side of the bed. The first thing the nurse said to me in hospital was, "Why have you not organised care for your partner whilst you are here?" - that's right, they had a go at me. I think most of my tears were for my OH and not the excruciating pain I was in with my back.

ILA, I hope you feel better soon :)
I saw the time of your post after I replied, thought it had been there a while. I put it down to age!

That must have been an awful time for both of you, Diz. Glad you both got through it and no doubt you would be better prepared for any repetition- I hope you don't need to try it out though.

ILA, hope the pain is more under control now and that you get some decent sleep.
