This has been happening for months now and is getting progressively worse.I'm very much a technophobe so have no clue why this is happening. Any help greatly appreciated.

I'd try downloading (free) and running Ccleaner, just in case you have a computer which is full of ancient rubbish files which could be causing a problem. It won't take long and could possibly help.
Try using System File Checker to scan Windows for corrupt files:

Press the Windows key and X together.

Depending upon your version of Windows, you'll see either 'Command Prompt (Admin)' or 'Windows PowerShell (Admin)' listed. Click on it.

A 'User Account Control' box will appear, asking if you wish to proceed. Click 'Yes'.

In the window which then opens, type 'SFC /scannow'. (Note that there's a space in there!). Hit 'Enter'.

The System File Checker will search for corrupt files and attempt to fix them. When it's done so, close the window and restart your computer.
This may happen if your computer is overloaded with temporary data, or if you have too many programs running in the background. I would first check your memory - if it's almost full, that is definitely what's causing the issue. Also, clear temporary data and scan your computer for malware.

Have run the ccleaner and will see what happens now. Definitely no malware issues. Will try Buenchico's tip if this doesn't solve it. Many thanks all.
Maybe worth running memory check software to ensure it's all seated correctly and working well.

I've run ccleaner and the problem remains. The downside of this is that I've lost all my Wordle data. How do I run a memory check Old Geezer?
Have you deleted Edge’s cache and history recently ?
Question Author
I think the history is set to delete automatically. The cache I have no idea Gromit. How do I do this? I'm running Windows 10(I think)
If the problem is across all browsers, then it's clearly with Windows, rather than with Edge. That's why I suggested running the System File Checker.

However, if want to clear Edge's cache anyway . . .

Thanks Buenchico. It won't open the box after the Powershell prompt. Have tried other things via web advice to run administrator? but it doesn't open box to type in FCS /scannow prompt. Going to look for my sledgehammer now.
Try this way of getting into PowerShell:

In the Windows search box, type 'PowerShell'.

RIGHT-click 'Windows PowerShell'.

Click 'Run As Administrator'.

[Then, as above, type ''SFC /scannow' and hit 'Enter']
Question Author
Got as far as 'Run as Administrator' but no option to type in the command.
You run a memory check by downloading free software to run overnight. Memtest86 is good IIRC.
Run as Administrator should, I believe, have popped up a DOS windows where you can type DOS commands then hit [return]
I have no idea why the tech added an 's' to 'window'.

Many thanks Old_Geezer. Will try later.
