I am a recent convert to smart phones but have recently found advantages in owning one.
I have a Tesco pay as you go and I cannot understand or find any information on the following data usage message.
Data usage - 7.07 MB used - 2.00 GB data warning - 6 days left.
I would be grateful if someone could translate this or point me to a website that could translate.

Whenever you use your phone to connect to the internet whilst out and about you are consuming data, unless you connect to a WiFi hotspot. Tesco has given you a data allowance of 2GB per month (this is 4G connection) and your month ends in 6 days. So you have 6 days to use or lose the 2GB allowance and then you will start the next month with another 2GB

Thank you for such a clear explanation.
This gives you an idea of what you can do with 2GB of data - it is useful to know if you are going on holiday and will be using your phone more away from WiFi.

HOW MUCH IS 2GB OF DATA?
2GB of data (or 2000MB) a month is a plan aimed at those who don't use mobile data often, but is enough to browse the web for around 80 minutes a day, or use social media apps for at least around 40 minutes per day. However, it is not suitable for those who stream lots of movies, or want to watch a lot of other videos.

2GB data sample monthly usage:

80 minutes of daily web browsing
Or at least 40 minutes of daily social media
Or 45 hours per month of music
Or 3-4 films per month (low or medium quality)

Thanks for that Barry. I found it really helpful. Whenever I go away I have been terrified of turning my Mobile Data on in case I forgot to turn it off or used too much when Virgin would charge me!!!! I realise now I have absolutely nothing to worry about.
I don't keep up with this sort of thing, but if I were abroad I'd still keep a close eye on data usage. At least double check with your service supplier that they don't have extra charges and/or higher rates when on a non-UK network, who may well be adding changes of their own.

I assume your son only uses Whatsapp over wifi, TTT. I don't think it's free to use with mobile data
Ah good. Just seemed to me that it was a connection that might be charged for anyway. So that's connecting via data rather than WiFi ?

I don't think it's free to use with mobile data " - not saying it was but if you use whatsapp for calls etc and both ends are connected to wifi then it's all over the net so you don't pay for a call via whatever roaming charge structure the provider uses. It comes out of the wifi allowance and in our case that's unlimited.
Yes, it's good over wifi.
