Just realised Silver Machine (aswell as Sweet-Ballroom Blitz) must of inspired The Time Warp, never spotted it before.
While in the forces, a Welsh friend of mine was quite 'into' this band. I thought they were a bit of a lightweight Sabbath, but i didn't mind listening to them when it was his turn to host the poker nights;

I'm off for a haircut - I may be back later if the siren call of the pub can be resisted ...
There you go, Piggy;

Lightweight?

In the mid 70s, a group of us British squaddies would visit Hamburg's Music Halle on the first Saturday of each month when a British band would usually be headlining. One Saturday as we headed toward the venue, i saw the poster proclaiming Sweet as the headline act. "Not watching that lot," i said, "What d'you think i am, a teeny-bopper?" My mate Ray had seen them in London and assured me they were a decent act, so i reluctantly paid my entry fee and went in.
They did the usual - Coco, Little Willie, Wig Wam Bam, et al, but they also surprised me by playing some really heavy/hard rock. This is one of the tracks;

Classic from Rush.
Drmorgans; i said a lightweight Sabbath. I didn't say the band were lightweight, per se.
There's more than a hint of Zep in the example you've posted.
Rainbow at their very best, imho, Piggy.

Ever listen to Jameson Raid, a Birmingham band from the so-called "new wave of British heavy metal". Melodic, riff-based (and loud):
