Following the death of Robbie Coltrane, i decided i would re-watch the entire 3 seasons of Cracker. I began last night and have so far watched 5 of the 7 episodes which make up the first series.
The first 2 episodes - 'Mad Woman In The Attic' - introduced us to the walking car-crash of a man that is 'Fitz'. We really get to know him in the next 3 episodes - 'To Say I Love You' - and i believe that this is where any Cracker fans (myself included, if memory serves) were hooked.
Yes, it is a tad dated, but still better than a lot of what is served up to us today.
I know there are those who said they hadn't seen Cracker. I strongly advise you to give it a whirl.

It's an excellent series. "To Be A Somebody" was the one that got me into it, with Robert Carlyle.
Excellent series x
I have them all on DVD, a great favourite of ours
i have them all on dvd... i was a bit young to watch it when it originally aired but my dad bought me them as a gift when i was 18 i think...

i had actually started watching them again a few weeks ago before coltrane had died!! strange coincidence

it does have some weaker storylines (i think "mad woman in the attic" is not a great intro to be really honest) but when it's good it's up there with the best TV ever made...

i haven't yet gotten to the storyline about the rapist. I remember thinking it was very good when i was younger but i wonder if it might not be as good now... mostly because of the "who raped her" mystery... i think that might not have aged very well.

Untitled, i agree with you as regards the weak storyline in the opening 2 episodes but i do feel it was merely a vehicle in which to introduce us to the series's main players.
'To Say I Love You' and 'To Be A Somebody' are the two best storylines of the whole 3 series, imho.
I understand what it is you're saying about the rape mystery but the acting was so good i do believe the knowledge of who the rapist is won't diminish that particular episode.
i remember heartstopping moment when the rapist turns to her and say "i raped you; i'm sorry" before he does what he does. Ihave always thought that man was a great actor!

Yes, Bednobs, even though i last watched Cracker quite some time ago, there are moments in almost every episode which i remember. That scene is definitely one of them. Another, more light-hearted one - which i mentioned on the RIP thread - was the broken nose scene in the gents:-)
I remember Judith re-affirming why she loved him so much, because, as she said "Other men don't have a tenth of that ..." tapping him on the head, "Or a twentieth of that ..." tapping him on the heart.

Wonderful.
by "that man" i meant locan cranitch
An excellent series, well worth watching if you havnt seen it and well worth a revisit if you have.
mcgovern always said his philosophy on writing was “narrative simplicity and emotional complexity”
I thought both Cracker and National Treasure were brilliant. It's a shame that he is most likely to be known as Hagrid now. The most recent, but clearly not the best of him.
I'm pleased this is on. I am going to binge watch the whole lot. I really liked his relationship with Panhandle.

Judith didn't.
I'd never seen Robert Carlyle, to my knowledge, before Cracker.
(shaving all his hair off in the mirror)
It was very good. imo.
